UNIT 4 LESSON 1

Introduction

Stephen Grusendorf

Hello and welcome to Unit 4 of Creation Narrative 2. In this unit, we’ll have a discussion about the Holy Spirit, that is, pneumatology, and begin a conversation that will continue into our next unit about the church, a subject that’s called ecclesiology. Now, in this first section, we’ll take a look at the person of the Holy Spirit. Often, the Holy Spirit is given very little attention when compared to God the Father and God the Son. However, we’re going to discover that the third person of the Trinity does in fact play a critical role in creation and in the life of the believer. In the second section, we’ll look at the fruit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Of all that the Holy Spirit does, these two topics are often the ones that get the most attention, yet understanding them well is critical to a good theology. Now, in our third and final section of this unit, we’ll turn our attention from the Holy Spirit to the church. In this final section, we’ll consider two key passages that help us understand that the church is a mystery that has been revealed to humanity by God himself. Now, because the church is a mystery that’s been revealed to us, it must be organized and ordered according to his will and his will alone.
